She was the matriarch of one of the Philippines’ major film studios.
On Sunday, August 4, Regal Entertainment shared with deep sorrow a statement of the Monteverde family on the passing of Philippine showbiz icon ‘Mother’ Lily Yu Monteverde at the age of 84, a few days shy of her birthday on August 19th.
“Our mother, Lily Yu Monteverde, ended her journey at 3:18 am this morning (August 4, 2024) to join our Creator,” the family wrote in their statement.
She was surrounded by her children and grandchildren in her final hours, and also had the chance to bid farewell to her friends and associates.
“Throughout the years, Mother Lily has served as one of the cornerstones of the movie industry, providing opportunities to filmmakers — both creatibe and technical — to carve their names in our popular history,” the Monteverdes added.
They also described her as a “true mother” to artists and workers who had the chance to work with her.
“The [Monteverde] family is at peace” now that the icon has found rest and joined her husband Remy, who passed on a week ago, “in that place called eternity.”
They also requested for prayers and to cherish the memory of Mother Lily “not only as a face of cinema but as a loving mother who she truly was… and will always be forever.”
Details regarding the wake of Regal matriarch was also shared, with the memorial service due to begin on Monday, August 5, at 3:30 pm until Friday, August 9, at 38 Valencia Events Place, Quezon City.
The interment will happen on Saturday, August 10, at The Heritage Park in Taguig City.
