The veteran TV host took to social media to clear out some points regarding his recent rants.
On Friday, April 19, ‘Eat Bulaga’ host Joey de Leon took to X (formerly Twitter) and uploaded a two-and-a-half-minute long video clarifying his controversial remarks during the Wednesday episode of his noontime show.
With the caption “Ang Paglilinaw,” Joey said at the very beginning of the video: “Para matapos na ang usap-usapan, hindi namin kaaway yung ‘Showtime.’
“‘Yung ‘Showtime,’ matagal na naming kapitbahay ‘yon. Hindi rin kami nila tinitira, hindi rin namin sila tinitira,” he added.
“Ang pinapatungkulan namin ni Tito [Sotto] noong nagalit kami sa ‘Eat Bulaga’ ay ‘yung mga social media na nagpopost [at may] mga programa. Kaya hinamon ko 15 years kung tatagal yung mga nagpopost na yun [at] hindi ‘Showtime.'”
He then sent his congratulatory message to rival program ‘It’s Showtime,’ which will celebrate its 15th anniversary in October 2024.
“Mahal namin ang ‘Showtime’ dahil kasabayan namin. Dadalawa na lang kami [kaya] huwag niyo kaming pagsabungin,” he asked the public.
de Leon also noted that their camp is in good terms with the other show: “Magkakaibigan din kami,” pertaining to ‘Showtime’ hosts.
He reiterated that his recent tirades are directed to ‘Eat Bulaga’ bashers: “Ang pinapatungkulan namin ni Tito [ay] yung mga nagpopost na magsasara na kami.”
“Dadalawa na nga lang kami, isasara pa ‘yung isa. At ‘yung isa ay ‘yung… longest-running,” referring to the status of ‘Eat Bulaga’ as the longest-running noontime variety show in the Philippines.
Joey de Leon then repeated his previous pronouncement that he will “kneel in front” of those who posted rumors about their TV5 noontime show.
To end, he sent a friendly message to ‘It’s Showtime’: “We love you, ‘Showtime!”
Joey de Leon drew ire on social media on Wednesday, April 17, after his on-air tirades versus rumormongers who spread the news regarding their production company TVJ Productions’ financial status.
There, he challenged these people and pages to reach “15 years” and he would kneel in front of them.
However, that particular line caused a stir as netizens linked that statement to rival program ‘It’s Showtime,’ which will be reaching its 15th year this 2024.
