A live streaming service complete with all the right ingredients could wind up becoming an integral part of their broadcast network’s recipe for success.
Earlier this month, TV5 began to utilize a unified brand for its digital livestreams and the catch-up service on its social media pages.
Dubbed as ‘Kapatid Online,’ the service provides individual streams of programs, with highlights and full episodes uploaded within hours of their television broadcast.
The Kapatid network’s current practice is akin to rival GMA Network’s Kapuso Stream when it initially launched in 2022.
Although, last year, Kapuso network converted its service into a near-mirror of its flagship TV channel 7.
That move made Kapuso Stream service similar to how ABS-CBN’s Kapamilya Channel’s original programming is broadcast on Kapamilya Online Live.
But in contrast to both KS and KOL, TV5’s service seems uninspired at best, particularly due to issues that this piece will try to address and solve.
BRAND EQUITY
Immediately, it is agreeable that the name ‘Kapatid Online’ will be able to explain itself and what it offers to its consumers.
However, it is in that very simplicity that ‘KO’ might struggle to find its viewers in the wide space of the internet.
This is primarily due to the fact that it bears striking resemblance to its contemporaries Kapamilya Online Live by ABS-CBN and GMA Network’s Kapuso Stream.
This is especially obvious during instances when a banner photo of a program’s “livestream” puts the word directly below the ‘Kapatid Online’ logo.
Whether the current branding is an interim choice or already a permanent name for any future expansion that might be in the pipeline as of now, the point still stands that ‘KO’ needs to be retooled into something else that reflects more of TV5’s brand.
Hence, all the way through the end of this article, it shall be known by its suggested name of ‘Go5’ (pronounced either as go-five or go-sing-ko) — a revival of sorts of the network’s 2013 slogan.
The word ‘go’ was chosen to reflect the on-the-go nature of viewers who opt to tune in to the streaming channel, as well as encourage some of them to shift their viewing habit to TV5’s digital content if they wish to.
Moreover, a rather unique and short name could also favor them in the cause of standing out from competition, which have both already solidified their respective branding in the minds of their audience.
Aside from all of that, TV5 can also expose the product by having it cross-promoted on social media, TV, radio, and print, and treat Go5 as a proper platform in itself.
Finally, at least for this part, Go5 must be made available on TV5’s website, Facebook page, YouTube channel, and on the Cignal Play app — considering the deviations it will have in its programming grid versus the main channel 5 feed.
ALL-DAY STREAMING
Another advantage Go5’s rivals have apart from their brand awareness is their ability to continuously stream content throughout the entire day on a singular video broadcast.
For ABS-CBN, they stream programs 24 hours a day on Kapamilya Online Live, while GMA typically do it from early morning up until late-night.
With that, Go5 must be keen to do the same, as this might also be able to help retain more viewers from one show to another.
For example, those who came to watch ‘Face 2 Face’ could comfortably watch ‘Eat Bulaga’ as soon as the talk show ends.
Once ‘EB’ is done for the day, the same effect could also happen for the current afternoon series ‘Lumuhod Ka Sa Lupa’ as there will be a seamless switchover to the next show — a far cry from the current mechanism.
Now, here’s the sample grid of Go5’s streaming schedule from Monday to Sunday.

Setting up a singular live stream will help viewers seam into the next program with ease and keep their interests high for the following shows.
Filler clips and previous episode highlights should be kept during commercial gaps, as TV5 currently implements them.
At times when the television feed broadcasts acquired content like foreign dramas, movies, or blocktimers, the Go5 channel should take the opportunity to re-air classic Kapatid shows.
By having these classic shows streamed on Go5, they will not only be seen anew, but might also get the chance to be reintroduced to a new set of audience in the digital space.
While they were not included, the Kapatid network’s sporting properties like the PBA or UAAP can also be considered for streaming during lull hours to boost their reach and presence online.
GO5’S FIGHTING CHANCE
With the era of streaming TV dawning upon us here in the Philippines, creating another option in an already filled space is not a bad idea.
After all, TV5 boasts some of the content that are sure crowd-drawers, especially the longest-running noontime show ‘Eat Bulaga,’ and some of the most nostalgic TV shows of the yesteryears.
It is now up to them to join the game that their contemporaries have already begun playing and catch up as soon as they can.
This is because making viewers ‘Go5’ is as is an undeniably tough challenge that might take a long time to happen.
But the rewards such a project could produce for the Kapatid network once they have firmly established themselves in the same league as their competition will surely be of great benefit to their long-term goals as a station.
