The Kapatid channel turns 5 today.
On February 18, 2019, Cignal TV launched its Filipino-language news and public service channel called One PH.
Most of the station’s programming at launch drew upon the content for its sister radio station Radyo5 on the 92.3 FM frequency.
This is much more evident, as in the lead-up of the channel’s launch, the Cignal channel 6 space it occupied was originally called Radyo5, before it settled with One PH — bringing it in line with sister channels One News and One Sports.
Additionally, it was also set up to fill the void left by AksyonTV, which ceased airing on January 13 of that year.
Until its demise, AksyonTV on UHF channel 41 had carried select shows from Radyo5 via the tele-radio format.
But those shows had to move over to Cignal, as the free-to-air channel was transformed to a full-fledged sports network 5Plus.
Aside from Radyo5 programs, One PH also created original shows, like ‘One Balita (Pilipinas),’ ‘Sa Totoo Lang,’ and ‘Wag Po!’
A year after its launch, in May 2020, One PH was officially launched on digital terrestrial television, providing an alternative to news channels like GMA News TV, CNN Philippines, and even MBC’s DZRH TV.
However, at the start of February 2024, it reverted to being an exclusive channel for Cignal customers, as RPTV was launched and took over its subchannel space on TV5’s digital TV frequency.
