‘KimPau’ will return in 2024 for this upcoming adaptation.
On Tuesday, November 21, ABS-CBN and Viu officially confirmed that they are making the Philippine adaptation of 2018 hit Korean drama ‘What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim?’.
Set to star as lead actors in the series are Kim Chiu as the titular role originally played by Park Min Young. Joining her will be Paulo Avelino, who will be the Vice Chairman, who was portrayed by Park Seo Joon in the 2018 series.
The project will serve as the reunion for both stars, who both topbilled the Prime Video series ‘Linlang ‘ which ended its seven-week run last November 16.
Moreover, it would also mark the second time for both Chiu and Avelino to star in a local remake.
In 2008, Kim Chiu led the Philippine version of ‘My Girl,’ which was based on the 2006 series of Lee Dong Wook and Lee Da Hae. Meanwhile, for Paulo Avelino, he was part of the Philippine adaptation of ‘Flower of Evil’ as Jacob del Rosario.
Aside from the two, confirmed cast members are Janice de Belen, Jake Cuenca, Angeline Quinto, Yves Flores, Gillian Vicencio, JC Alcantara, and Kaori Oinuma.
The upcoming adaptation would mark the third adaptation between ABS-CBN and Viu as partners. The first two projects were ‘The Broken Marriage Vow,’ and ‘Flower of Evil,’ which both aired in 2022.
Their latest collaboration was the groundbreaking ABS-CBN and GMA co-production ‘Unbreak My Heart,’ which streamed in 16 countries and territories in Asia via Viu.
As for ‘WWWSK,’ it is no stranger to Philippine telvision. In 2018, ABS-CBN, then the leading television network in the country, aired the Filipino dub of the original Korean series on primetime. It was then re-aired on the Asianovela Channel until 2020.
Then, in 2022, erstwhile rival GMA Network picked-up the rights and aired the program on its main channel. Later on, it was re-aired on the Heart of Asia subchannel on digital free TV.
‘What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim?’ is set to air via ABS-CBN platforms and Viu in 2024.
