Two institutions in local cinema have given out their respective prestigious prizes last Sunday.
On Sunday, August 13, the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) and the Cinemalaya Festival, held their separate awarding ceremonies.
First of, the 2023 FAMAS Awards was held at the Manila Hotel in the City of Manila. During the night, the 2022 Metro Manila Film Festival entry ‘Family Matters’ took home four awards out of its 12 nominations it had, including the one for Best Picture.
Nadine Lustre also made her own record of getting her second FAMAS award for Best Actress, this time for her performance for ‘Greed’.

- Best Sound: Alizen Andrade, Immanuel Verona (Reroute)
- Best Short Film: Golden Bells
- Face of the Night: Nadine Lustre, Mon Confiado
- Female Star of the Night: Jillian Ward
- Male Star of the Night: Sid Lucero
- German Moreno Youth Achievement Award: Jillian Ward
- Dr. Jose R Perez Memorial Award: Jun Urbano
- Susan Roces Celebrity Award: Liza Lorena
- Fernando Poe Jr. Memorial Award: Senator Lito Lapid
- FAMAS Lifetime Achievement Award: Marita Zobel
Meanwhile, the Cinemalaya 2023 Festival concluded its 10-day-run with the awarding of prizes for the films that stood out in its 19th edition. Held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City, here are the films and personalities that received recognition that night.
