Albay residents evacuate as Mayon’s unrest continues
Heeding to the signal by PHIVOLCS, residents living within the 6-kilometer radius permanent danger zone (PDZ) have sought temporary shelter, as Mayon Volcano’s unrest continues. Now on Alert Level 3, the volcano is still exhibiting various activities, such as rockfall events. Sulfur dioxide emission of the volcano, however, increased beyond the baseline set by PHIVOLCS, and reached 1,205 tonnes a day on Saturday.
Juan Luna art piece comes home
One of Juan Luna’s masterpieces, and considered to be the “holy grail of Filipino art” has returned home. The “Hymen, oh Hyménée!” is now on display at the Ayala Museum in Makati City, after 132 years since it was last seen in public.
According to its known history, Juan Luna was in possession of the painting, until his death in 1899. Since then, it was acquired by various private owners. Art collector Jaime Ponce de Leon is a key personality to its successful return to Luna’s motherland, as he told that he searched for it across Europe, before stumbling upon it in an aristocratic home.
“Hymen, oh Hyménée” will be showcased at the Ayala Museum until the end of the year.
Ex-UK PM Boris Johnson resigns as MP
Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Friday, June 9 (UK time), that he is stepping down as a member of the Parliament.
This comes as a Commons investigation over the ‘partygate’ scandal has reportedly found that he misled Parliament and recommended to suspend him for more than 10 days.
In his lengthy statement, Johnson hit out on the Privileges Committee, the investigating body, and current Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
Johnson had been an MP since 2001, and served as the Prime Minister from 2019 to 2022.
Park Bom visits Manila for first solo concert in PH
2NE1 ‘tingi version’
Bom Park, a member of the second generation Korean pop group 2NE1, is in the Philippines to hold her first solo fan-concert in Manila. Titled ‘You & I,’ the event was held on June 10, 2023 at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City.
Her concert took place at the very same venue of 2NE1 member Minzy her ‘Glee’ concert, which had its Manila stop just six days ago.
Also, both concerts happen in the same week as Dara’s visit to Clark in Pampanga, Philippines to film a variety show with other idols like DINDIN, Winner’s Jinwoo, NU’EST’s JR and Aaron.
Coldplay to hold concert in Bocaue, Bulacan next year
British rock band Coldplay is coming to the Philippines next year. That is according to the video teaser released by organizer Live Nation Philippines on Saturday. The concert will be part of the bands ‘Music of the Sphere’ world tour and will be held at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.
No date has been set yet, but it is said that it will be held sometime in 2024.
