British TV host Phillip Schofield leaves ITV after revealing his past affair with ex-colleague

In the past few hours, popular UK TV presenter Phillip Schofield has made a bombshell revelation.

In a statement addressed to the UK newspaper The Daily Mail, the TV host and former ‘This Morning’ presenter has admitted his relationship with a former younger male ITV staff who used to work in the said morning show. He says that it was a “consensual relationship,” however calls it “unwise, but not illegal.” Schofield says that the relationship is already over.

He also did not name the ex-colleague to “protect his privacy.”

Schofield then says his departure from ‘This Morning’ is “unrelated” to this revelation. He also said that “no one forced” him and his decision to come out in the open as gay through the program in 2020.

The TV presenter also apologizes for lying about the relationship in his past interviews, employers at ITV, and his family, among other people, including the public. He says sorry to his wife for being “unfaithful,” he added in the statement.

He then tendered his resignation from ITV, “effective immediately.” Phillip then stood down from hosting the British Soap Awards. Phillip had also parted ways with his publicist of 35 years. Schofield says he will reflect on his “very bad judgment in both participating in the relationship and lying about it.”

It was just last weekend when Schofield stood down from ‘This Morning,’ the program that he had co-presented since 2002, first with Fern Britton. Then in 2009, Holly Willoughby came on-board and together, they have won awards for the program in award-giving bodies like the National Television Awards.
