New programs (and channel) on PHTV starting Easter Monday

Come Easter Monday, April 5, 2021, a bunch of new shows will grace our screens.

As the Philippines reels from a very unusual Holy Week under enhanced community quarantine, TV networks are also set to put up new programs to entice their respective viewers.

TV5

Over at TV5, two new programs will be airing their pilot episodes. The first one, Sing Galing, is the revival of the iconic ABC gameshow back in the ’90s and early 2000s. Now hosted by the trio of Donita Nose, K Brosas, and Randy Santiago, the show is the first original IP of the station to be resuscitated during this Renaissance of sorts of the Kapatid network.

Sing Galing airs weekdays at 6:30pm, replacing Archangel-produced gameshows Bawal na Gameshow and Fill in the Bank. TV5’s flagship primetime newscast Frontline Pilipinas will also move down to 5:30pm.

Right after Sing Galing, a new primetime drama is also set to debut on TV5. Niña Niño, a story about siblings Niña and Niño as they experience and witness miracles in their lives and the people around them. The show stars Ian Pangilinan, Ruby Ruiz, Lilet Esteban, Noel Comia, Jr., Empoy and Maja Salvador.

Replacing Paano ang Pangako?, Niña Niño – a co-production between Cignal Entertainment and Cornerstone Studios – will air weeknights at 7:15pm, after Sing Galing and before FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano on TV5.

Kapamilya Channel

Jumping to the other side of the fence, Kapamilya Channel is also going to have two new programs in its lineup.

Suits, the 2018 Korean adapatation of the US drama series of the same name, stars Park Hyung-sik and Jang Dong-gun. The drama revolves around the Kang & Ham law firm where the two leads are working. Suits exclusively airs weeknights after the delayed telecast of The World Tonight on the Kapamilya Channel.

Meanwhile, the 2016 primetime teleserye Magpahanggang Wakas starring John Estrada, Gelli de Belen, Arci Muñoz, and Jericho Rosales is making a comeback on Kapamilya Gold. MW’s rerun replaces the rebroadcast of The Good Son and will air every weekday afternoon at 3:00pm on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, and A2Z Channel 11.

GMA and GTV

The Kapuso network and its sister channels will also debut new programs during Easter Monday.

Firstly, GMA Public Affairs’ anthology series Karelasyon will be reairing starting April 5. First aired every Saturday between 2015 and 2017, it gained infamy by tackling relationship matters, particularly sex, among other things on a timeslot rather not suitable for such themes. The show replaces Magkaagaw and would air Monday to Saturday at 2:30pm, right after Eat Bulaga.

However, Karelasyon will only serve as an interim program on that timeslot. It is said that Magkaagaw’s intended replacement, Nagbabagang Luha starring Rayver Cruz and Glaiza de Castro, has been pushed back due to the enforcement of the enhanced community quarantine in the Greater Manila Area.

Speaking of postponed programs, Afternoon Prime’s third slot has been filled with reruns of Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real since last Monday as the drama Ang Dalawang Ikaw starring Rita Daniella and Ken Chan was postponed due to the same reason.

Fast forward to primetime, just as the second season of I Can See You premieres its second installment #Future, GMA is also extending the simulcast mania to the program. Just like First Yaya, ICSY will also begin to simultaneously air on GMA, GTV, and Heart of Asia Channel starting Monday at 8:50pm.

The 8:50 slot for GTV and HOA was previously occupied by the now-concluded The Lost Recipe. Originally, David Licauco and Julie Anne San Jose’s rom-com drama Heartful Café was scheduled to be launched on April 5. But due to the current health situation, the premiere had also been moved to a later date.

I Heart Movies

Speaking of the Kapuso network, GMA’s fourth digital channel is set to be launched on Monday. I Heart Movies, an all-day DTT movie channel is the network’s first channel dedicated to the programming genre. IHM will be drafted by divided into four blocks: Takilya Throwback (old Pinoy movies from the 1970s until early 2000s), Timeless Telesine (GMA’s original telemovies), Block Screening (foreign blokcbuster films), and Pinoy Movie Date (local blockbuster films).

The channel will begin its first day of official broadcast at 5:00am on April 5.
