TV5 is pulling all the stops for the fans of K-pop.
Beginning next Sunday, January 31, 2021, Kapatid and K-fans alike will witness the arrival of Mnet’s music chart show M Countdown to the network’s lineup of programs. The program, which was launched in 2004, is produced weekly by CJ ENM and showcases various Korean music acts. It is also a venue for fans to show support to their favorite idols by nominating and voting for their song every week.
This also marks a milestone in TV5’s serious foray into broadcasting shows from Korea in recent years. It was only late last year when Korean dramas returned to the station via Wok of Love and Reply 1988. Apart from that, MCD will also be the third Korean music show to be broadcasted on Philippine free-to-air television. The first two shows are Music Bank and Simply K-pop which are available on Hallypop.
Alongside TV5, M Countdown also continues to air in the Philippines on pay TV channel tvN Asia.
2022 UPDATE: After the closure of Cignal TV’s Colours channel, M Countdown is now only available on television on a two-week delay basis via TV5 every Sunday at 10pm — with livestreaming on the Cignal Play app. Meanwhile, Smart gigaplay (no longer gigafest) provides the live broadcast on the app every Thursday at 5:00pm.
