For the first time on Schedule Suggestions, we’ll be taking a look at a hypothetical situation.
Recently, Brightlight Productions, TV5, Cignal TV, and ABS-CBN joint forces to bring ASAP Natin ‘To and the FPJ Da King movie block on channel 5. Through this partnership, the Kapamilya network would be gaining access to free-to-air audience nationwide for the first time since May 5, 2020.
As of now, only both ABS-CBN shows have been confirmed to air over at TV5. But TV5/Cignal said their doors remain open for negotiations to both Brightlight and ABS-CBN for additional airtime, should the need arises.
For this special edition of Schedule Suggestions, we’ll figure how TV5’s programming grid would look like should an expanded deal with ABS-CBN Corporation be inked. To clear the air first, this “partnership” could either be a blocktime deal similar to A2Z or through the existence of a middleman like Brightlight Productions.

For the morning schedule, there’s pretty not much needed to be changed. The exception being that it could be utilized further to move some of TV5’s displaced programs. For example, afternoon shows like Marimar and Thai dramas could be placed right before Idol in Action. Then right after a shortened Idol in Action, TV5 would then begin hooking up Magandang Buhay from A2Z/Kapamilya Channel.
That would be a big if since Lunch Out Loud is still airing, and could also serve as a good pre-program. Should that be a case, Magandang Buhay can move to 9:00am on all platforms to accomodate a simulcasting arrangement. The airtime shift is doable as the only obstacle for both A2Z and Kapamilya Channel are movie blocks that could be moved at any given moment.
Should the NBA conference and season final matches air on a weekday morning, preemption of programs would only be the most probable.
In the afternoons, It’s Showtime could be placed as the anchor of the block. After which, Kapamilya teleseryes could air until 4:00pm. TV5 could then takeover and air their own set of dramas until 5:30pm or 6:00pm.
At 7:00pm, given that the widened partnership encompasses the weekend blocks as well, displaced weekend primetime shows could be moved as a strip ala Primetime Todo dramas as of late. These shows could also be boosted by Kapamilya primetime dramas that will run after them. Speaking of Primetime Todo, it could transfer an hour later at 10:30pm.
Now, what about PBA, you may ask. Should a separate blocktime deal be inked on primetime, TV5 has two options. First is letting the league air in its entirety exclusively on One Sports and PBA Rush on Cignal. The second choice is to carry the games on a delayed basis right after Primetime Todo. Or they could even replace the Wednesday and Friday shows to allow them to air from 10:30pm, still on a delayed basis.

For much of the daytime schedule, it looks pretty much the same, except for the removal of movie blocks and acquired shows from Cignal’s partners.
Meanwhile on primetime, it could be interpreted that ABS-CBN shows fit well like a jigsaw puzzle on TV5’s current grid. This would only be possible if shows on those slots, however, would move to a hypothetical 7pm strip every weeknight.
Since the August relaunch, sports programming should not be a concern as Saturdays have been basically become an entertainment day for channel 5 except for mornings and late-nights.

Sundays have a more open slot, thanks to the break in the broadcast of PBA games. However, with ABS-CBN only producing a small amount of shows these days, it should not pose much of a problem for TV5 to air their programs even when PBA is on the schedule.
Right after FPJ: Da King, 5 could continue to air PBA games in lieu of those acquired shows. But after broadcasting the first game, TV5 can air entertainment shows from 6 to 10:30pm, with PBA preempting Onstage to air the second game via a delayed telecast. Still, One Sports could be utilized to air both games live and in their entirety.
With their new model, TV5 has become more flexible than ever to accept blocktimers and line producers. Thus, if ever a wider deal with local content provider giant ABS-CBN comes to fruition, it should not come as much of a surprise. Also given that much of current TV5 shows are registering low figures, matched with the clamor to air more shows from ABS after ASAP, it would only take a matter of time before either one of them gives in.
