After A2Z and Kapamilya Channel, it’s time for the radio-formatted channel.
Previously branded as DZMM TeleRadyo from its debut in 2007 until this year, TeleRadyo became the exclusive home of most DZMM programs after the demise of the AM station on May 5. Its programs are simultaneously aired on cable TV, ABS-CBN Radio Service app, and on social media via Facebook and YouTube.
Though there have been huge effects amassed from the forced shutdown, TeleRadyo was still able to deliver remarkable special coverages this year. Last month alone, the channel went into marathon when Super Typhoon Rolly and Typhoon Ulysses struck the main island of Luzon. The broadcast was even mirrored on sister English-language news channel ANC.
Speaking of simulcast, the morning block from Sakto until Kabayan is also aired on the Kapamilya Channel.
In this edition of Schedule Suggestions, we’ll explore the programming grid of the station and how could it possibly become should relevant changes be made on it.

In the morning block, the Umagang Kay Ganda name could be revived and patterned to the current format of Sakto. Technically, it would become a morning show with smaller budget and sans the cooking and other entertainment component, which focus on a mix of light news stories and features. Gising Pilipinas could still be retained as a segment despite the change. Apart from that, UKG could also air as a de-facto morning show for TeleRadyo, ANC, and Kapamilya Channel.
Additionally, current morning anchor shows On The Spot and Lingkod Kapamilya could be moved to the afternoons. In this manner, the block which is filled with reruns of old shows and repeat telecasts could be utilized efficiently.

Much like what’s being suggested to the weekday schedule, moving around some shows to air on the afternoons could be an option too. It would also give enough room for some programs to expand to 2 hours, a usual broadcast length for DZMM shows before the shutdown.
But if that’s not possible (for budgetary issues, among others), an alternation of repeat telecasts in between shows is another solution. This is also an effective measure should a technical mishap happen in a succeeding program. While others will be able to run as scheduled, the only casualty would be a replay of an old show and the affected show could air in that timeslot instead.

As far as the gold standard for radio-formatted TV channels is concerned, the crown would still definitely go to TeleRadyo. Thus, a better TeleRadyo would pose a greater challenge for their closest rivals.
With 2021 looming, a refreshed TeleRadyo would be an exciting proposition to see. Especially with many shows needing to end this year due to one reason or another, an improved and stabilized schedule is what that they need to have first moving into the next year.
