“The world’s first Asian pop culture digital channel” is finally here.
On September 20, GMA Network and their content partner Jungo TV will join forces in introducing Hallypop, the newest digital terrestrial television broadcaster in the country. HP was on test broadcast since the 6th of September and has already aired programs like clips from Music Bank and K-pop music videos via StarGazeMusik, among others. The two programs are part of the launch day lineup, with the popular variety show Running Man and a special premiere of Beyoncé’s “I Am” joining them in the evening.
Hallypop is part of GMA’s wave of digital TV offerings this year — which the Heart of Asia channel and Affordabox are both part of. However, before Jungo TV’s partnership with the Kapuso network was forged last year, HP is already an American digital channel that exclusively streams on platforms like Roku.
But as the channel begins broadcasting, one can’t help to be confused as to why is there a need for Hallypop when Heart of Asia is already out there? A basic answer would be that both channels have technically two different functions. The former is more geared towards music and pop culture. Meanwhile, the latter is more suited for fans of Filipino dubbed Asian dramas and archived original GMA serials.
Hallypop is available on all digital TV boxes as it’s not encrypted. Viewers who aren’t able to see it have to rescan their box. HP’s launch day is set to last 18 hours between 6:00 a.m. and 12:00 m.n.

Jungo TV is an American company whose only other offering is the American digital martial arts channel Combat Go, also available to stream for free.
