Flagging unauthorized use of her works, name, and likeness.
In a statement on Friday, November 6, Universal Records Philippines issued a stern reminder to the public.
The company, foremost, emphasized that it strongly supports the protection of the intellectual property rights and related rights associated with the works, performances, name, image, and likeness of Pinoy Big Brother: Collab 3.0 and former UNIS member Gehlee Dangca.
“We have recently observed unauthorized use and exploitation of materials associated with Gehlee Dangca, without the prior express approval of Universal Records Philippines and/or the appropriate rights holders,” they noted.
According to the label, these include the unauthorized use of her songs and sound recordings, copyrighted photographs and videos.
Gehlee’s name, image, and likeness were also used in advertisements, music releases, promotional materials, and other commercial content.
“While we appreciate the continued support of Gehlee Dangca’s fans and supporters, we remind everyone that such support must be accompanied by respect for her rights and the intellectual property of all concerned parties,” Universal Records Philippines continued.
Thus, it vowed to take appropriate legal action, “including civil and/or criminal remedies where warranted,” against parties responsible for unauthorized use, reproduction, distribution, or commercial exploitation of these materials.
The company concluded by saying: “We strongly urge everyone to respect these rights and secure the necessary permissions before using or publishing any content associated with Gehlee Dangca.”
It was back in September when Gehlee formally signed a contract with Universal Records, under a co-management deal with GLXY Talent Management and Star Horizon TV Production, as she moves forward with a brand new chapter in her career following the disbandment of the project group UNIS.
It was noted that she is expected to have “local projects, and international activities as she continues to grow her career beyond Korea.”
One of those projects turned out to be the reality TV show Pinoy Big Brother: Collab 3.0, where she is one of the 16 housemates that have been announced so far.
Prior to her introduction as one of the cast members, she also released her solo single entitled Closer last October 23.
