It was matter that he deemed very inappropriate for such an event.
In a post on his social media page, actor Dennis Trillo has used his voice to call out a children’s party organizer, Party Magic.
In the said status update, he attached a video where he specifically pointed a portion of a video where a tabloid printout was posted on a wall for a children’s party that was centered on the theme of ’90s nostalgia.
The said paper featured a story about a chikd who was physically abused by her stepfather was the banner headline, with the uncensored photo of the girl being front and center.
The Kapuso Drama King wrote: “Hindi ko lang mapigilang mag react dito, tutal ayaw niyo (Party Magic) sumagot sa tawag ko… sige dito tayo mag usap.”
He directly called out the decision to include such graphic story on such an occasion.
“Party Magic, bakit niyo naman napiling gamitin ito mismong kopya ng tabloid na ito? Sa theme ng children’s party pa ha? Paki paliwanag please…” he said.
Dennis then explained that he had a deeper reason behind the post and noted that the girl in the said picture is none other than his wife, actress Jennylyn Mercado.
“Sa mga hindi nakaka alam, yung naka headline na batang binugbog ay yung asawa ko. Tama ba naman na yun pa ang ilagay niyo?” he asked the organizer.
Immediately, the post circulated, with netizens also sharing their two cents on the matter and many others also tagging the party company for a response.
PARTY MAGIC’S STATEMENT
A day later, on Friday, November 6, Party Magic posted their official statement on their social media page.
The company wrote: “We would like to sincerely apologize to Ms. Jennylyn Mercado, Mr. Dennis Trillo, and their family for the inclusion of a newspaper clipping containing a sensitive story in one of our recent events.”
According to them, the clipping was unintentionally included among vintage newspaper materials used as decorative props.
“We recognize that regardless of the circumstances, such a painful and personal story should never have been used in a celebratory setting. We did not in any way intend to hurt anyone in the process,” they said.
The company vowed to take full responsibility for this oversight and expressed their deep regret for the hurt and distress it has caused.
“We also wish to respectfully clarify that there was never any intention to target, ridicule, or disrespect Ms. Mercado or her family. Its inclusion was not a personal statement or reference to anyone’s private circumstances,” they added.
Party Magic also noted that they have been dedicated to creating meaningful celebrations for children and families.
They also stressed that they “unequivocally condemn all forms of child abuse” and that they would “never knowingly promote, glorify, or trivialize such suffering.”
The business said they are now reviewing and strengthening their internal processes to ensure that all creative materials are screened with greater care and sensitivity.
“We understand that an apology cannot undo the hurt this incident has caused. Nevertheless, we offer ours with genuine remorse, humility, and respect,” they furthered.
Party Magic closed their statement by apologizing anew to the couple and their family.
