As she continues to deliver a solid performance throughout the tour.
On Monday, November 2, the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) refreshed its global rankings and Filipina star player Alex Eala emerged with a positive result.
After slightly dipping to number 20 in the previous global index, the 21-year-old was able to surpass her career-best placement at number 18 and leaped to number 17 in the new board.
This is yet another historic feat for her and the country as she is the first-and-only local tennis player to reach the said position.
Moreover, she is also the highest-ranked female player from Southeast Asia in tennis history.
According to the Philippine Tennis Association (PhilTA), observers now forecast that Eala is set to become one of the top 10 players worldwide in the future.
Meanwhile, following her quarterfinals exit from the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo, where she was defeated by the eventual tourney champion Diana Shnaider, Alex has shifted her attention to the Hong Kong Open that begins on November 2 (Monday).
Eala is set to face American tennis player Alycia Parks in the Round of 32 scheduled for Tuesday, November 3 at 6:30 pm.
Hong Kong is set to be Eala’s second-to-last stop in Asia and the current WTA season—where she made strides by winning two trophies at the DC Open and Birmingham Open, and historic feats at the Wimbledon and US Open.
