In time for the peak travel season this Undas break.
On Thursday, October 29, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led the opening of NLEX-C5 Northlink Segment 8.2 Section 1A in Valenzuela City.
This two-kilometer section, which opened ahead of schedule, will cut travel time along the route from 40 minutes to just five minutes and is seen to help in easing traffic congestion during the anticipated surge in vehicles for Undas.
It spans from Quirino Highway in Quezon City to NLEX Mindanao Toll Plaza in Valenzuela City and is seen to benefit up to 11,000 motorists daily.
“So mas madali ngayon ang pagdaloy ng traffic at saka para hindi masyadong mahirapan ang ating mga kababayan sa kanilang pag-recognize at saka pag-celebrate ng Undas,” President Marcos said.
President Marcos was joined by Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, Public Works Secretary Giovanni Lopez, Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) representatives, and other government officials during the inspection and inauguration.
The new section will provide direct access from Quirino Highway to the NLEX Connector for trips to Manila, the University Belt, and nearby cities, offering an alternative route to EDSA.
Those heading north can also use the new section to reach the NLEX Mindanao Toll Plaza and access the NLEX mainline toward Central Luzon, with connections to the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) for onward travel to Northern Luzon.
Section 1A is part of the 11.3-kilometer NLEX-C5 Northlink Segment 8.2 project, which extends from Mindanao Avenue to C5/C.P. Garcia near Katipunan Avenue.
The NLEX-C5 Northlink project is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project. The Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) serves as the government grantor, while NLEX Corporation, which is a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), is the private concessionaire.
