On Tuesday, October 27, the Senate and the state-run Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) jointly launched their new undertaking called the Senate TV.

The said platform, according to the Senate, establishes a “direct and unfiltered window into the nation’s lawmaking halls.”

It noted that the channel will be similar to the American television network C-SPAN and will broadcast Senate plenary sessions, committee hearings, and official proceedings “without editorial filtering.”

Senate TV will broadcast daily from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm via IBC digital TV channel 13.3, with the channel leased by the Senate. Notably, it joins the Congress TV of the House of Representatives as another IBC subchannel—which also beams similar content, on top of original newscasts and public affairs shows.

In his statement, Senate President Win Gatchalian emphasized: “Senate TV is a very good step to bring full information to our constituents. That is one of the steps and directions of Senate TV, to really give our constituents the full view of the operations of the Senate so they can truly appreciate what we do.”

Meanwhile, Senate President Pro Tempore Vicente Sotto III stressed that the Constitution states that the people have a right to information on matters of public concerns and that the state shall adopt a policy of full public disclosure.”

For his part, IBC President and CEO Jimmie Policarpio Jr. welcomed the Senate TV to the network, which had just renewed its legislative franchise for another 25 years.
