But expect it to be less cooler than usual due to the ongoing El Niño episode.
On Tuesday, October 27, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced that the country has transituoned to another season.
According to the state weather bureau, the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) season has officially begun.
“Over the past few days, observations have shown that the High Pressure Area over East Asia is strengthening, resulting in a surge of northeasterly winds and lower air temperatures over Extreme Northern Luzon,” it explained.
PAGASA furthered that in the coming months, the Northeast Monsoon will become dominant over most parts of the country and is expected to bring “cooler weather, episodes of cold surges, and rough sea conditions.”
“Furthermore, the shear line, tropical cyclones, and Intertropical Convergence Zone may influence the country’s weather conditions during the season,” the bureau added.
However, this year’s Amihan will also coincide with the “strong to very strong” episode of the El Niño, which will have its impact felt before the end of the year and last until the middle of 2027.
El Niño is the warm phase of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO), marked by abnormally warm sea surface temperatures in the Central and Eastern Equatorial Pacific and cooler-than-average ocean temperatures over the Philippine Sea.
On that note, PAGASA said it will continue to monitor the country’s weather and climatic conditions.
Meanwhile, the public and all concerned agencies are advised to monitor relevant PAGASA information regularly.
