She will be competing in both the singles and doubles divisions.
Following her secind round exit from the Ningbo Open in China, where she fell to Diana Shnaider during their match on October 22 (Thursday), Filipina tennis star Alex Eala is returning to Japan anew.
Weeks after she won the bronze medal at the Asian Games 2026 in Nagoya, the 21-year-old athlete is going to make her debut at the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo, a WTA 500 tournament.
“I’m so excited to be joining the Pan Pacific Open this year. I heard that the crowd in Tokyo is amazing, so I’m so excited to experience that and that there’s also a Filipino community there,” Eala said in a video statement.
In the schedule revealed by organizers, Alex who is currently world no. 20, is confirmed to participate in the singles event. There, she will face British player Mika Stojsavljevic, who is world no. 308, in the first round that will happen at the Center Court on October 26 (Monday) at around 5:00 pm (local time).
Apart from that, Alex is also set to team up with Desirae Krawczyk at the women’s doubles event, with further details to be announced.
The Pan Pacific Open is set to be Eala’s second-to-last stop in Asia and the current WTA season—where she made strides by winning two trophies at the DC Open and Birmingham Open, and historic feats at the Wimbledon and US Open.
