It will be his first visit to the Philippines in nearly a decade.
On Wednesday, October 14, Malacañan Palace confirmed that United States President Donald Tump will be heading to the Philippines next month.
This, as the American leader is set to attend the 49th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Manila, which will happen from November 16 to 18.
“It is confirmed, pero iyong details ay hindi po manggagaling sa akin,” said Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro.
Before this, Trump last visited the Philippines during his first term back in November 2017, when he attended the 31st ASEAN Summit Meeting that also happened in Manila.
In July 2025, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. met at the White House in Washington, D.C. to discuss bilateral relations, defense cooperation, and trade.
A year later, in July 2026, the two leaders had a telephone conversation, where they discussed economic developments and regional security concerns, including the South China Sea.
Marcos also later disclosed that he had personally invited Trump to join the summit, but did not note whether the latter had accepted the invitation.
Previously, the Palace also announced that the three-day summit will be special non-working days throughout the National Capital Region (NCR).
The ASEAN’s 2026 national calendar also lists several ASEAN-related meetings in Metro Manila in November, including the 16th ASEAN Maritime Forum on November 17 and the 14th Expanded ASEAN Maritime Forum on November 18.
Among the venues confirmed for this summit are the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) and the recently reopened Coconut Palace in Pasay City.
Meanwhile, prior to this, Cebu hosted the 48th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits last May, where regional leaders came together discuss matters in critical areas such as energy and food security, and the war between the United States and Iran.
