It also makes history as the first afternoon drama series to receive such treatment.
This Friday, October 16, the new TV5 Entertainment and Pelikula Indiopendent production Mommy Guard will make its premiere via the streaming platform Netflix.
The series, which is top-billed by the iconic MarJo tandem of Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdangal, will drop its piloy episode on the said platform three days before its scheduled linear television premiere on Monday, October 19.
This makes the show the first-ever local afternoon series to be given such treatment, which was previously exclusive to primetime shows across major networks such as TV5, ABS-CBN, and GMA. Among the most recent ones is the Kapatid action-romance drama A Secret In Prague, led by Enrique Gil and Andrea Brillantes.
In Mommy Guard, Tina (Jolina Magdangal) has a son, Happy (Amo Wilding), with high intellect and to accommodate his skills and secure a better future for him, she will enroll him in a prestigious institution.
However, that will lead her to meeting the school principal Pio (Marvin Agustin), whom she met in an unfortunate accident that started their cat and dog dynamics.
Confirmed to be joining them in this project are Dominic Ochoa, Roxanne Guinoo, and Star Worx artists Cedrick Juan and Nathalie Apollo.
It is under the direction of Roman Perez.
Aside from Netflix, the show will also be seen via TV5 and other linear television and digital platforms such as ABS-CBN sa ALLTV2, A2Z, Kapamilya Channel, and Kapamilya Online Live.
Mommy Guard will mark the reunion of Jolina, Marvin, and Dominic, who starred in the 1999 film Hey Babe.
It will also be the follow-up project for Marvin and Jolina after the 2025 Valentine romantic-comedy movie Ex Ex Lovers which was directed by JP Habac
Prior to that, Marvin and Jolina last starred in full-length project together in 2015, when they starred in the ABS-CBN afternoon series Flordeliza.
Since then, they have only been seen in public sporadically, such as the time when Agustin appeared as a guest in Magdangal’s morning talk show Magandang Buhay.
Some of the duo’s most notable projects include the Gimik and Labs Ko Si Babe on ABS-CBN, as well as I Luv NY and Dear Friend on GMA.
Mommy Guard will air Monday to Friday at 2:30 pm via TV5, ABS-CBN sa ALLTV2, A2Z, Kapamilya Channel, and Kapamilya Online Live starting October 19 (Monday). Episodes will stream in Netflix starting October 16 (Friday).
