The said visit comes nearly three months after his prior engagements in the neighboring country.
On Wednesday, October 7, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. headed to Singapore for a five-day working visit.
The plane carrying the President touched down at Singapore Changi Airport at 11:05 pm, reported the Presidential Communications Office.
Some of the engagements lined up for him during the visit are meetings with Singapore Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong and global top executives, as well as a tour of a nuclear research and safety facility.
In a pre-departure statement, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said that he will promote the Philippines as a key investment destination for digital technology, artificial intelligence (AI), advanced manufacturing, and other growth sectors.
This, as he is set to join the 24th Forbes Global CEO Conference, which will bring together around 450 business and thought leaders from around the world.
“This time, our economic engagement will have a broader global focus. I will present the opportunities that the Philippines offers in digital technology, AI, and advanced manufacturing,” the President said.
Moreover, he also told that he will also highlight opportunities in infrastructure, energy, healthcare and other sectors that will support the country’s continued economic transformation.
Marcos also stressed that the government’s goal goes beyond attracting investments, as the country must also build the infrastructure, energy capacity and technical expertise needed to sustain emerging industries.
“As we pursue these ambitions, we must also prepare for the economy we are building,” the President said. “AI, data centers, advanced manufacturing, and other emerging industries will require greater amounts of reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy.”
President Marcos will also visit the Singapore Nuclear Research and Safety Institute upon the invitation of Temasek Foundation and Ayala Corporation to learn from Singapore’s experience in developing scientific and technical capabilities in nuclear technology and safety.
“The Philippines must continue to examine all viable options for our long-term energy security, while developing the knowledge and capabilities needed to make sound decisions for our future,” he said.
The President will also meet with Singapore Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments.
Specifically, the meeting concerns the upcoming assumption of Singapore as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Chair next year.
The President also said that he looks forward to exchanging views with Prime Minister Wong on sustaining and advancing regional priorities as the Philippines enters the final stretch of its ASEAN Chairship.
“I return to Singapore with a clear purpose: to build on one of our most important economic partnerships and prepare our country for the industries of the future,” Marcos stated.
Prior to this, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. had a meeting with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the Istana in July 2026.
The said meeting happened in relation to the preparations for the next year’s events of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), as the Philippines, this year’s Chair, is expected to pass the baton to Singapore in 2027.
He also participated in the Milken Institute Private Roundtable Discussion at the Philippine Embassy in Singapore, where he met with business leaders and investors in a bid to attract more investments, especially with the recent upgrading of thr country’s status to an “upper-middle income economy” by the World Bank.
