The Filipina tennis star is continuing her streak in the continental games.
On Wednesday, September 30, Alex Eala, the top-seeded player in the women’s singles event of the ongoing tennis tournament at Asian Games 2026, continued seeing action for the third consecutive day.
The current world no. 18 finally faced Chinese Taipei’s Joanna Garland in the quarterfinals, with the match having taken place at the Center Court at Higashiyama Park Tennis Center in Nagoya, Japan.
During which, the 21-year-old Filipina, who had recently won international tournaments such as the US Open and Birmingham Open, faced tough opposition from the 25-year-old, who made it to the quarterfinals of the Singapore Open.
In the opening set, it took time for Eala to gain her footing, with her and Garland consistently exchanging breaks. It was only on the tenth game when Alex has found her rhythm and started to push back and pull away from her court rival. Eventually, the Pinay will sweep the second sey to take the win.
The final scoreline was 7-5, 6-0.
After the match, she also thanked the Filipino fans who came to support her at her match. She also expressed that she is focusing on her goal and that is to secure the first gold of the country in the sport since 1962.
“I know, no matches here are easy,” she admitted before expressing her thanks to Joanna for the good fight.
