Keeping the country’s goal of scoring more medals in this edition alive.
On Monday, September 21, it was an action-packed day at the Nagoya City General Stadium in Japan as the Qualification round for different exercises of the men’s artistic gymnastics competition in the 20th Asian Games took place.
In the said events, the Philippines was well-represented, with the squad led by no less than double Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo, as well as his brother Eldrew Yulo and Juancho Miguel Besana.
For the two-time Olympian, who is looking to bag a gold medal in the Asia, he was able to secure spots in three apparatus finals.
During the qualifications, he was able lead the in the floor exercise apparatus with 14.600 points—having scored 5.7 in difficulty and 8.9 in execution.
He also ranked sixth in Parallel Bars, where he scored 14.266 points, and seventh in Vault with 13.649 points.
Meanwhile, his younger brother Eldrew also earned a berth in the floor exercise final after ranking fourth in the event with a score of 13.966 points. He also made the cut in the horizontal bar after placing ninth with 13.433 points.
The teenage Yulo also finished seventh in the all-around with 77.264 points.
Meanwhile, Juancho Miguel Besana, who earned a gold medal in the Southeast Asian Games, was able to secure hus place in the men’s vault final after scoring 13.933 points.
Coming up next in the Asian Games is the women’s artistic gymnastics team, who will be having their qualifications on Tuesday, September 22.
