It is presented as the “one-stop source” for all the trending topics in pop culture and anything current.
This September 13, GMA’s secondary free-to-air channel GTV is set to launch its newest weekly talk show. Entitled Kalurks, it will be hosted by a new trio of hosts that will liven up the discussion on different topics each Sunday evening: DJ Jhai Ho, Ashley Rivera, and Baus Rufo.
Ashley shared in an interview with GMA News that the program will see them talk about everything trending on social media, including showbiz and politics.
Baus added, “Hihimayin po natin ang mga naging kuwento of the past week. So kami ay magbibigay ng iba’t ibang anggulo, dimension, nuance. Abangan n’yo po ‘yan.“
As for DJ Jhai Ho, he looks forward to seeing their different perspectives on topics.
“I’m sure excited sila sa mga pa-blind items namin. Hindi lang ‘to mga artista ha, lahat ng mga sikat na personalidad sa mundo ng social media, even politics, kayang-kaya na ni Baus ‘yan,” furthered the radio DJ and host.
“Ang mga bagay na talagang napaisip tayo, natawa tayo, medyo nagalit tayo, ‘yan po ang aming uusisain tuwing Linggo,” Baus told.
Ashley also warned, “Walang safe rito sa KALURKS!, lahat kayo pwedeng maging suspect.”
WEEKLY SHOWBIZ-ORIENTED TALK SHOWS
Beyond just being a new program, Kalurks is also effectively reviving the weekly showbiz-oriented talk show genre that has largely become absent from any major free-to-air station in recent years.
It can be recalled that it was back in 2015 when ABS-CBN and GMA axed their respective long-running programs The Buzz and Startalk amid the growing challenge they have been receiving from new technologies such as social media.
Since then, there have been attempts at reviving the genre, although with major changes to the known formula such as Celebri-TV on GMA, Showbiz Pa More (which was also hosted by DJ Jhai Ho) and Stars On Stars on Jeepney TV, and even the Bisaya talk show Kuan-On-One with Melai Cantiveros on ABS-CBN platforms.
Kalurks will begin airing on September 13 at 8:30 pm on GTV, with episodes also available via GMA’s online platforms including the GMA Play app.
