She will use her time to recover and reset to compete next year.

In a post on social media, triathlete Kira Ellis shared an update to her followers regarding her current health status.

The 20-year-old, who represented the country in the 2025 Southeast Asian Games in Thailand last December, said that 2026 has been a ride for her and, “unfortunately, it’s been filled with a lot more downs than ups.”

Starting the year with stitches, then getting injured in my knees a few weeks later, which lasted around seven months (plus an old injury resurfacing as well), and then having one of my worst accidents on the bike so far,” she said, noting that she got hit by a car on one of her training rides.

These past few months have been a roller coaster for me, both mentally and physically. I always tried to stay strong and push through, hoping to make a comeback in the last few months we have left of this year. However, after this accident, I’ve really been forced to slow down and rest, which I now believe is much needed,” she added.

In spite of everything, she said she still considers herself a “very lucky girl” to have walked away with only a few broken bones and bruises.

I will still have my whole body scanned and double-checked, but considering what everyone has been telling me, it could have been a completely different situation for me,” Kira also shared.

Thus, the triathlete will be taking a break throughout the rest of the year with hopes of getting better by next year.

As a result, she will be skipping the upcoming Asian Games 2026 that will happen this September 19 to October 4 in Nagoya and Aichi, Japan.

This is all part of sport, and it’s not easy, but I truly would never trade it for the world. Keeping my head held high and with lots of hope for the future,” Ellis concluded her post.
