Ending her run in the WTA 1000 tournament.
On Tuesday, August 18 (Manila time), Filipina tennis star Alex Eala returned to action in the Roundof 32 of the Cincinnati Open in Ohio, USA.
The world no. 20 faced world no. 10, Amanda Anisimova, for the very first time in the Round of 32 match held at Linder Family Tennis Center.
Alex, who is continuing her strong run that started all the way back in the Birmingham Open in June, was met with strong resistance from her American opponent at onset of their game. Despite that, the Pinay netter was able to push it strongly and win the opening set.
Eala looked to bring that momentum into the second set, however, Anisimova was able to regroup and take the lead from her, 4-3, and later push it to win that set and the match to a deciding round.
In the end, an error-laden third set ended any hopes for the 21-year-old rising Asian tennis star against the 24-year-old, who won the match with the final scoreline reading: 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Anisimova has booked herself a Round of 16 match against Linda Noskova, who then won against Claura Tauson.
Meanwhile, for Alex, she is taking a few days off before her sophomore appearance in the US Open in New York, USA in late August, where she will play in the main draw event.
Moreover, she will also participate in a special charity event in the lead up to that, with her close friend, Iva Jonvic, being her opponent in the said match.
