The actor takes a look at the challenges hounding the Philippine education sector.
On Saturday, August 8, the new GMA Public Affairs documentary special Rebuilding Broken Rooms will premiere on GMA Network.
The Asia’s Multimedia Star, Alden Richards, will take a journey around the country as he uncovers the stories behind the worsening learning crisis.
According to GMA’s press release, the documentary is part of Alden’s lifelong commitment to education, as he left school at a young age to provide for his family.
“Gusto kong magamit ‘yung boses na meron ako para maipalaganap ‘yung mensahe na kailangan marinig ng sambayanan. Gusto ko maging part nung advocacy para mamulat natin ‘yung mga tao sa kung ano ba talaga ‘yung sitwasyon ngayon,” the actor shared.
Institutions to be featured in the program are the Tinungkaan Elementary School in Alabel, Sarangani, which is a school identified by EDCOM II (Second Congressional Commission on Education) as having the highest percentage of struggling readers in the country, where all students are classified as low-emerging readers, and the Rosauro Almario Elementary School in Tondo, Manila, which has the highest percentage of low-emerging readers in Metro Manila.
This crisis needs to be highlighted, as according to numbers from the World Bank in 2022, 91 percent of 10-year-old children in the country struggle to read and comprehend.
Also included are longstanding issues on infrastructure in schools such as Ciudad Nuevo Elementary School in Naic, Cavite, which wad forced to build makeshift classrooms due to the lack of space and Calubcob Elementary School, which had to convert vacant housing units within a residential project into temporary classroom..

Meanwhile, the documentary is an indirect successor to the earlier Broken Roads, Broken Promises documentary that was hosted by Dingdong Dantes in 2025.
There, the Kapuso Primetime King also personally visited various sites around the country, including campuses with unfinished school buildings due to stalled construction works, on top of anomalous projects.
