Their reunion is finally pushing through.
Fresh from her historic win at the Mubadala DC Open in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, August 4 (Manila time), Filipina tennis sensation is not taking a break to savor the moment and instead fly up north to Toronto, Canada to participate in another tournament.
The 21-year-old, who had just reached her career-best placement at 20th place in the Women’s Tennis Association’s (WTA) global singles index, is confirmed to be playing at the Canadian Open (also known as the National Bank Open) this week.
Seeded 25th in the said WTA 1000 tourney, Eala received a first round bye and will face Alycia Parks in the Round of 64 on Thursday, August 6 (Manila time).
This will mark their rematch after previous play at the Australian Open in January, where Parks emerged victorious after a three-set battle.
Meanwhile, Alex has also been confirmed to be participating in the women’s doubles category and will finally reunite with Venus Williams — whom the Filipina tennis sensation was supposed to join forces with in DC, but begged off in the last minute to concentrate in the singles category.
Eala and Williams will face the tandem of Liudmila Samsonova and Miyu Kato in the Round of 32, also scheduled on Thursday, August 6 (Manila time).
Prior to Toronto, Alex and Venus previously worked together in Bad Homburg in Germany last June.
