Former Senator Bong Revilla released after posting P1-M bail

The former senator’s appeal was granted by the anti-graft court.

The former senator’s appeal was granted by the anti-graft court.

On Friday, July 31, the third division of the Sandiganbayan approved the motion by the camp of ex-Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr. for him to post bail on his malversation case, which is in connection with the flood control project in Pandi, Bulacan.

The court explained that its decision to grant the said appeal was due to the prosecution not being able to “establish strong evidence of guilt.”

The same branch also cited as basis for the approval of the motion being the Enrile vs. Sandiganbayan (G.R. 213847) case, where the Supreme Court set a precedent by allowing the posting of bail shoild the prosecution fail to establish guilt of the defendant.

However, some of the notable figures such as Department of Public Works and Highways ex-officials Brice Ericson Hernandez and Jaypee  Mendoza, among others, had their motions denied by the said court.

In a post on his social media page, the actor-politician posed with his family members hours after the court approved his request and paid the P1 million bail that it set.

“God is good! Salamat po Panginoon,” he wrote as he is now out on interim release.

It was last January when the Sandiganbayan ordered Revilla to be arrested over their alleged links to the PHP92.8 million “ghost” or inexistent flood control project in Bulacan, with the action star being charged with technical malversation.

He was accused by a former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) official of receiving kickbacks in exchange for endorsing flood control projects.

Following this development, Revilla made his voluntary surrender at the national headquarters of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Camp Crame in Quezon City.
