He was one of the thousand people who witnessed it in-person at the Batasang Pambansa.
In a post on his Instagram account on Monday, July 27, the country’s first and lone double Olympic gold medalist, Carlos Yulo, shared his snapshots that were taken inside the halls of the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City.
The gymnast was one of the distinguished guests invited to personally witness the fifth State of the Nation Address of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.
In the caption of his image carousel, the 26-year-old shared how honored he is to attend the national-level affair. “Isang karangalan po ang makadalo sa State of the Nation Address (SONA) ngayong taon,” he said.
“Nakakatuwa pong marinig ang pagbibigay kahalagahan sa sports at sa mga atletang Pilipino,” Caloy continued. “Sana po ay magpatuloy ang suporta sa pagpapaunlad ng sports sa ating bansa, para po mas marami pang kabataan ang mahikayat na mangarap, magsumikap, at ipakita ang ating talento.”
He ended his statement by saying, “Proud to continue representing the Philippines. Para sa bayan.”
In his speech, Marcos noted that sports remains to be an intergal part of the government’s priorities, framing it as a key foundation of its health and wellness initiatives.
Meanwhile, Carlos, together with his younger brother Eldrew, won at the 13th Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Senior Asian Championships in Zunyi, China that was held last June.
