She is making her return to the court next week.
On Sunday, July 26 (Manila time), the matches at the Mubadala DC Open in the U.S. capital Washington, D.C., were offiicially announced.
Filipina tennis star Alex Eala, who has been announced as part of the slate that includes many of the world’s leading tennis players, has also been confirmed to be participating in the singles category.
She has been drawn to have a round-of-32 game against Zheng Qinwen on Monday, July 27 (Manila time), which also marks their rematch after facing each other at the 2023 Asian Games in China, where Eala lost to the Chinese netter.
Currently, however, the dynamics and circumstances could be different, especially with the Eala being ranked 29 globally, while Zheng is currently in 123rd.
Meanwhile, despite having been announced previously, the reunion between Alex and tennis legend Venus Williams in the doubles tournament will no longer happen.
According to the latest information available, the two, who were previously dislcosed to be pairing up anew after their stint at the Bad Homburg Open in Germany last June, are no longer team, as Eala moves to concentrate on her singles journey. Instead, Williams has partnered with Diana Shaider.
It was earlier in July when Alex Eala stunned the world with her historic campaign at the Wimbledon Championships in the United Kingdom, where she was able to make it through the fourth round and even dethroned defending champion Iga Swiatek.
Prior to that, she also won her second WTA 125 title in Birmingham that follows her previous win in Guadalajara, Mexico in 2025.
Alex also held her fan activities in Manila in the past week, which served as her grand homecoming following her major feats.
