King James is still in the game.
On Friday, July 24 (Manila time), the Philadelphia 76ers and American basketball icon LeBron James officially announced that he is part of the National Basketball Association (NBA) team.
In a post on his page, the 41-year-old shared his sentiments following his move from the Los Angeles Lakers, where he stayed for eight years from 2018 to the most recent season.
He shared that he has already pondered retiring after the prior season. “I thought I was done when the season ended. I wasn’t ready to announce it, and I knew I needed some time to really decide, but I was pretty sure I played my last game.”
LeBron also looked back on a previous press conference, when he said that he needed to look at himself and deicide if he still “love(s) this game.”
“I still truly love this game, and I have more to give,” he responded to his past statement.
“The last few weeks have really been special. I’ve never been able to have no clue what to do and take real time to just think. I’ve had an incredible few months with all the people I love trying to figure it all out,” he continued.
The three-time Olympic gold medalist also said that his move is his last decision. “I’m not going for money. I’m not going for family. What am I really playing for at this point?“
For him, he still wants to sacrifice, work, grind, compete, and “to win and to have a chance at the feeling of winning another championship.“
“I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time,” LeBron shared his excitement on the prospect of playing in the East Coast after awhile.
He also said his thanks to his past teams, the Lakers, Miami Heat, and the Boston Celtics. “Thank you LA. Miami I’ll forever love and Northeast Ohio will always home!“
LeBron is the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, having surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s four-decade record.
He currently has 43,000 regular season points, four NBA titles, four NBA Finals Most Valuable Player awards, and four regular-season MVPs.
