In the past few days, numerous netizens took to social media to share their discovery of reposts made by Thai actor Justin Angus Moir.
The 15-year-old, who stars in the series When Oranges Fall, was seen to have shared video clips that are being viewed by the public as advocating for violent behavior, sexism, and discriminatory acts.
In light of what occurred, Moir took to his social media account and shared his statement regarding the matter.
He wrote, “Regarding my past social media reposts, I want to begin by saying that I am truly sorry. I accept all criticism and sincerely apologize for everything that has happened.“
The actor then explained point by point the reposted clips and imagery on his social media account.
“First, regarding the image of the gun that I reposted, I admit that it was thoughtless and an immature joke. Looking back, I recognize how foolish and irresponsible it was,” said Justin.
He also said that the backlash has been an “important lesson” for him and made the promise to not to commit such ever again. “I want to emphasize that I do not support violence in any form,” the star underscored.
Meanwhile, Justin also told that he respects people of all genders and sexual orientations and also believes that everyone “deserves to be treated with dignity and equality.“
He also told that many people around him, including his friends and colleagues from the LGBTQ+ community, have shown him “kindness, support, and guidance,” for which he is “grateful.”
“I sincerely apologize for the things I reposted in the past and for the hurt and disappointment they may have caused,” the 15-year-old also said. “Although I made those reposts when I lacked the maturity to fully understand the impact of my actions, being young is absolutely not an excuse. I take full responsibility for what I did.”
He also shared that every criticism he has received “has been a valuable lesson, and I will use it to grow into a more thoughtful, respectful, and responsible person.”
“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to apologize and explain myself,” he ended his statement.
While he has already expressed his apologies, his parent studio, GMMTV, which produces the series When Oranges Fall, had also made a strong move in response to the situation.
“In light of the recent public criticism surrounding Justin Angus Moir, GMMTV Co., Ltd. has taken note of the concerns and sentiments expressed by fans and the wider public and takes this matter extremely seriously,” the company stated.
They also expressed their apologies for the “disappointment and distress” the incident has caused and emphasized that they “do not condone any behavior or content that promotes violence, sexism, discrimination, or the dissemination of material that may incite hatred in any form.“
These values, GMMTV told, are fundamental to how the company operates.
“After careful deliberation, the company has made the decision to terminate its contract with Justin Angus Moir as a talent under its management, effective immediately,” it also announced in the statement.
Following this, posters regarding the activities in connection with the finale of When Oranges Fall have also been changed to reflect the removal of Justin from the company.
Moir, who portrayed the character of Thawin Obkit (August) in the series, has been omitted from the poster for a special show that will be held on July 29 at centralwOrld in Bangkok.
Only Almond-Poomsuwan Suwansatit, Progress-Passawish Thamasungkeeti, Ken-Kanthee Limpitikranon, Paul-Tanan Lohawatanakul, and Keaton-Sitthithat Tungtisanon will attend the said event.
