From July 27 (Monday), the Mubadala DC Open will take place in the United States and during which, multiple players — including some of the world’s leading female tennis stars — are set to compete.
The Philippines’ very own Alex Eala, who had just clinched her career best No. 28 placement in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) singles index, is part of the line-up that also includes the likes of Jessica Pegula, Elina Svitolina. Marta Kostyuk, Naomi Osaka, Jasmine Paolini, Clara Tauson, and Janice Tjen, among many others.
Meanwhile, Alex has not only signed up for the singles as she will also see action in the women’s doubles category.
It has also been confirmed that the 21-year-old will be having reunion with Venus Williams, whom she previously played alongside in the Bad Homburg Open in Germany last June.
Together, they were able to win against thr tandem of Alexandra Osborne and Catherine Harrison, but fell to Tereza Mihalikova and Olivia Nicholls in the quarterfinals.
BACK HOME IN PH, EARNS TRUST FROM SG PRIME MINISTER
It was alst Sunday, July 12, when Alex made her way back home for a couple of engagements.
Among her activities included a company courtesy call in Globe and BPI, who are her top patrons. She also had a special dinner event hosted by President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. at the Malacañan Palace.
In addition, she also met her fans during a fan meeting event in Makati City on Wednesday, July 15.
Meanwhile, during the recent working visit of President Marcos to Singapore this week, the Palace reproter that Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong expressed confidence that Alex will be the first-ever Southeast Asian to win a Grand Slam title.
Palace Press Officer and Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro said, “Binati rin ng Prime Minister ang Pilipinas at si Filipino tennis superstar Alex Eala sa pag-ukit ng kasaysayan sa Wimbledon.”
“Tiwala ang Prime Minister na si Alex Eala ang magiging kauna-unahang Southeast Asian na mag-uuwi ng grand slam title sa Wimbledon – bagay na sinang-ayunan ni Pangulong Marcos Jr,” Castro also said, as she noted that both leaders expressrd admiration for Eala’s booming tennis career.
