Last Wednesday, July 8, the celebration of the 2026 GOCCs (Government-Owned or -Controlled Corporations) Day was led by President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. at the Malacañan Palace.

During which, the Chief Executive reported that the dividend collections for this year has already surpassed the year prior. He disclosed that the national government has received approximately PHP139.8 billion.

Meanwhile, the DOF said that in 2026, total dividends amount to PHP147.15 billion from 50 GOCCs, with actual dividend collection of PHP140 billion as of July 8, 2026. The balance of which will be remitted by December 2026.

He then cited the value that such amount can deliver to the public, noting: “These are resources that can build nearly forty thousand (40,000) classrooms for our children, provide around one hundred sixty-five thousand (165,000) homes for Filipino families, construct roughly eight thousand seven hundred (8,700) to nine thousand three hundred (9,300) kilometers of farm-to-market roads that connect our farmers and fisherfolk to markets.”

According to him, the higher GOCC remittance was due to the encouragement from the Department of Finance (DOF) to raise their dividend to 75 percent in 2024.

That is a higher than the law-mandated lowest threshold of 50 percent dividend remittance of these government owned- and controlled-corporations of the run annual net earnings as cash, stock, or property dividends to the national government under Republic Act No. 7656 (Dividend Law).

Marcos acknowledged that it was an ambitious target that demands discipline, efficiency, and a strong commitment to the highest standards of public stewardship. “I am pleased that the response from our GOCCs has shown that such standards are within our reach,” he said.

Meanwhile, throughout the four years of the Marcos administration, the projected cumulative dividend collections from GOCCs are expected to reach PHP501.431 billion by the end of 2026, including actual and projected remittances for 2026.

It noted that this translates to an average annual dividend collection of PHP125.358 billion.

The DOF noted that it is 31.15 percent higher than the PHP382.3 billion remitted during the entire six-year term of the previous Duterte administration, with an annual average of PhP63.7 billion.

Prior to that, the Aquino administration, total dividends collected were at PHP164.8 billion with a PHP27.4 billion annual average. It was then PHP84.1 billion, with an annual average of PHP9.3 billion, throughout the Arroyo administration.

Meanwhile, during the GOCC Day, the Chief Executive honored the GOCCs at the Palace event, saying they have long served as vital partners in nation-building and have stood for decades as “paragons of progress, equity, and opportunity.”

Every peso that you have remitted strengthens the government’s capacity to deliver better services without imposing additional tax burdens on ordinary Filipinos, said the President Marcos.
