In a picture that she shared on her Instagram account, Filipina tennis star Alex Eala shared a special moment she had on the sidelines of the ongoing Wimbledon Championships in the United Kingdom.
Together with her friend, Turkish player Zeynep Sonmez, the 21-year-old was able to meet none other than British rotalty, Princess Catherine of Wales, who is also popularly known as Princess Kate.
“So honoured to have grabbed a pic with Her Royal Highness!” the current world no. 32 shared in the post, where she also tagged Sonmez.
The said meet-up happens ahead of Eala’s thrilling third round competition, where she will face Iga Swiatek, who is presently world no. 3, on Saturday evening, July 4 (Manila time).
Earlier in the week, Alex made headlines when she delivered back-to-back wins in the first two rounds, defeating Renata Zarazua in the first and Maya Joint in the succeeding match.
She both made history in both, as she remains to be the first and only Filipina tennis player to ever make it to the third round of the Wimbledon Championships, more so a seeded player in the Grand Slam event where she is considered the 29th seed.
Meanwhile, she also paired up with frequent partner, Czech netter Nikola Bartunkova, in the women’s doubles. However, they fell to the tandem of Jelena Ostapenko and Sofia Kenin and made their swift exit in the said category.
