It has entered into a deal with a different entity for its stores in the country.
Following the end of its previous tie-up with Stores Specialist, Inc. (SSI Group) last May, the UK-based retail company Marks & Spencer (M&S) announced the next chapter of its presence in the Philippines.
On Monday, June 8, M&S formally signed a new franchise agreement with PT Mitra Adiperkasa Tbk (MAP), which is the leading lifestyle retailer in Indonesia, and will be operating M&S stores through its local subsidiary, Universal Fashion Philippines, Inc.
“M&S’ ambition is to build a trusted global brand through capital‑light partnerships which leverage the expertise and infrastructure of strategic franchise partners in established markets,” noted the British company in its email to Trendrod.
MAP has operated M&S’ franchise business for over 26 years both in Indonesia and Vietnam, with the Southeast Asian group delivering “strong growth across M&S business in those countries.”
“As part of M&S’ strategy to work with fewer, more strategic partners, it is now expanding its partnership with MAP across Southeast Asia into the Philippines,” furthered Marks & Spencer.
According to them, the first store under the new partnership will make the M&S Fashion, Home & Beauty and Food lines available to Filipino shoppers once more in Glorietta, Makati at the end of 2026.
Mark Lemming, Managing Director of M&S International, said in a statement, “We are delighted to expand our partnership with MAP into the Philippines.“
“Having played a pivotal role in driving our growth in Indonesia, MAP’s deep local expertise gives us confidence as we accelerate our growth plans in Southeast Asia. We know there is strong demand for the M&S brand in the Philippines, and we’re excited to reopen our stores and online channels later this year,” he added.
Meanwhile, Sameer Prasad, CEO of MAP Fashion, said their group is “thrilled” to bring back the M&S brand to the Philippine market.
“Taking over the M&S business in the Philippines marks an important milestone for MAP Fashion and reflects our commitment to growing iconic global brands across Southeast Asia,” said the CEO of the new M&S franchisee in the country.
He also called the Philippines as an “exciting and fast-growing market,” with Manila being the “ideal place” to begin this next chapter for M&S.
“With its strong heritage, trusted quality, and timeless appeal, M&S continues to resonate with consumers across generations. We look forward to strengthening the brand’s presence in the market and delivering an elevated retail experience for Filipino customers,” furthered Prasad.
Marks & Spencer first opened in the Philippines in 1984 and earlier this year, it confirmed that it would transition to a new franchise partner to support its “ambitious growth plans” in the region.
Meanwhile, MAP has a portfolio of more than 150 world-class brands from department stores, sports, fashion, kids, food & beverage to lifestyle. As of March 2026, MAP operates more than 4,000 retail stores in over 80 cities across Indonesia.
