It is the last movie together, at least for now, of its lead stars.
In a report by ABS-CBN’s film production unit Star Cinema on Thursday, May 28, it announced the first-day gross of the new movie, Tayo Sa Wakas.
Starring Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano, collectively known as DonBelle, it opened its theatrical run on Wednesday (May 27) with PHP 12 million in box office earnings, making it the highest opening day gross for a local film in 2026.
Also to be noted is the move of Star Cinema to lower ticket prices across various movie chains around the country.
Following its solid opening, the company shared that Tayo Sa Wakas is now showing in 250 cinemas in the Philippines, with global screenings set to commence in June.
It will be shown in Australia and New Zealand starting June 11. Then it will hit the US, Canada, and Guam beginning June 12, while it will become available in Hong Kong and Macau starting June 21.
It will also have screenings in Malaysia in June, with the film hitting Taiwan starting August 7, and and in the Middle East on a still-undisclosed date.
Tayo Sa Wakas serves as Star Cinema’s 33rd anniversary and is helmed by acclaimed director Cathy Garcia-Sampana, who shared that the film, themed “lovers to rivals,” aims to entertain audiences while making them believe in and fall in love with love again.
Star Cinema shared that the film centers on long-time couple, Cisco (Donny) and Cheska (Belle), “who are forced to confront how their ambitions put them on competing paths.”
“They take a promised breakup trip to decide if they should finally let go of each other or fight for their love,” it added.
Previously, it was also revealed by Donny and Belle that this will serve as their last project together, at least for now, as they look to explore as individual artists outside of their love team.
