It is Asia’s longest-running drama anthology.
Exactly 35 years ago, on May 15, 1991, ABS-CBN premiered the drama anthology program Maalaala Mo Kaya.
Presented by Charo Santos-Concio, it premiered with the episode entitled Rubber Shoes topbilled by Romnick Sarmenta and quickly became a staple of the network.
First airing on late evenings on Wednesday, then Thursday, and Friday, it was later moved to Saturday nights in 2008 and remained on the said timeslot ever since.
Following the network’s shutdown in May 2020, MMK resumed airing on the Kapamilya Channel in June 2020, followed by its broadcast on the Kapamilya Online Live and A2Z platform later that year.
However, amid changes in the programming of the company, as well as perceived budgetary issues, the show concluded its original run in December 2022.
Its last story before going on-hiatus was the three-part story titled Scarlet Women, which was topbilled by Kaila Estrada.
Since then, Charo Santos-Concio has remained visible on screen via the top-rated primetime drama series FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.
But in April 2025, CSC read her legendary spiel at the start of each story, “Dear Charo” in a teaser, signaling the return of the iconic show, which was co-produced with iWant as a limited run series.
She also did not contain her emotions, as she shared that she also missed reading the line in the said clip and told: “Aww… na-miss kong sabihin ang line na yan at na-miss ko rin kayo,” said Santos to the avid fans of the program.
Some of the stories that presented in the show are stories of The Voice USA grand champion Sofronio Vasquez (portrayed by Elijah Canlas) and the life BINI member Sheena Catacutan that she played herself. One of the most talked-about during the season was the episode featuring the real crime story of the Maguad siblings.
At present, reruns of past episodes are still airing as part of ABS-CBN’s weekend lineup.
