That also marks the end of the appearance of the Pinay tennis star at the said tournament this season.
On Monday (May 11), Filipina netter Alex Eala and her American partner Hailey Baptiste competed in the Round of 32 of the women’s doubles at the ongoing Italian Open in Rome, Italy.
Together, they faced the pair of Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend, who both Eala met and played with in the recent Madrid Open 2026 with her Turkish partner Zeynep Sönmez, and lost to.
Looking to turn things around, the first set saw Eala and Baptiste attempting to mount a strong momentum, which eventually went to their opponents.
In the end, Townsend and Siniakova were able to build on their established chemistry on the court and defeated the other duo, winning 6-2, 6-1 to head to next round of the competition.
Meanwhile, this also marks the end of Alex Eala’s journey at the Italian Open, as she also made a third-round exit last weekend in the women’s singles.
The 20-year-old Filipina lost to 26-year-old Elena Rybakina, who is currently number 2 globally, in the Round of 32 contest, 6-4, 6-3.
Up next for Eala is the Parma Ladies Open, which will happen from May 12 to 17, before moving on to France for the French Open, which is then due to begin on May 18 and will run until June 7.
