Marina Summers addresses public following Miss Universe PH hosting stint

While it was a historic feat for her, the stint was met with mixed reactions on social media from pageant fans and other viewers.

In a post on her account on X, formerly Twitter, drag superstar Marina Summers addressed the public for the first time since her hosting of the Miss Universe 2026 coronation night last Saturday, May 2.

At the said event, which saw the crowning of Bea Millan-Windorski as the new national titleholder, Marina made history as the first-ever transwoman in its history to serve as host.

But it received mixed reviews from fans and viewers, with some calling her style as “boring”  and others defending the drag personality and said that she did it the “formal” way.

She wrote in the said post, “Hosting Miss Universe Philippines 2026 has been one of the greatest milestones of my career and my life.”

Marina noted that she understood that many would have differing opinions about it, she was stunned to see “vile and alarming” transphobic comments—including towards fellow Drag Race Philippines alum Angel Galang.

Galang, in a now-deleted social media post, was one of the people who expressed dissatisfaction with Marina’s hosting.

And while I understand that there will be different opinions and some resistance to it, I did not expect the vile & alarming amount of transphobia, hate and even death threats thrown at me. Moreso, the hate and harassment being thrown to my sister, Angel,” Marina wrote.

This is not what I stand for. This NEEDS TO STOP,” she emphasized.

Marina also said that during her stint, she also proudly did it for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Sa lahat ng trabaho at success na pinaghirapan natin, dala dala ko ang pag asa na iaangat nito ang pagtanggap sa LGBTQIA+.”

While she was admittedly hurt by Angel’s statements, Marina said she does not condone any hurtful and hateful words thrown at her because of it.

Huwag itong gamiting excuse para manira ng kapwa. It just sets us back and everything we’ve worked so hard for just loses its meaning.”

She then reminded that while everyone is entitled to their opinions, no one is entitled to disrespect others.

While I may not be able to change everyone’s opinion, I would like to call on everyone who believes in me. I am truly grateful for all the outpour of love and support. I ask that you only spread love, grace and kindness to the people around you,” she continued.

To end, “Angel and I were able to resolve things privately. Let’s give her space and understanding. Maraming salamat sa pag-unawa.
