The controversial ex-lawmaker was arrested on Thursday.
In a post on his Facebook page, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. said that the Philippine government is continuing its coordination with its counterparts in the Czech Republic.
This concerns the reported arrest of former legislator Zaldy Co, who attempted to cross the country with insufficient documents, according to Marcos himself in a prior statement on April 16.
“Our coordination with Czech authorities continues,” he wrote in the post.
The chief executive added, “The latest information confirms that Zaldy Co was stopped at the German border after entering from the Czech Republic. He was denied entry and returned to Czech authorities, where he remains in custody.“
Meanwhile, according to Secretary of Interior and Local Government Jonvic Remulla, the exact timeline of Co’s return to the Philippines is still uncertain, but gave a period of around one to three weeks.
Co is facing arrest warrants for graft and malversation over an anomalous multi-million flood control project in Oriental Mindoro.
He is one of the co-accused in the case, which was also filed against officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Mimaropa and executives of Sunwest Construction and Development Corp.
The legal challenge was filed by the Office of the Ombudsman before the Sandiganbayan as part of the first tranche of cases related to flood control projects corruption in late 2025.
