He is among the personalities that will be featured in the upcoming series.
Starting March 25, ABS-CBN’s streaming platform iWant will begin streaming the new limited documentary series entitled Gamechangers, which will highlight the lives of different Filipinos raising the country’s flag on the global stage.
The 30-minute documentary series will chronicle the “blood, sweat, and vision of inspiring personalities whose determination and bold moves are putting the Philippines on the map and opening doors for the next generation.”
The subject of the first episode of the program, which is produced by the Metro Channel, is Filipino pole vault star EJ Obiena.
In the show, he will share his journey from growing up in a family of athletes to becoming one of the world’s best pole vaulters.
Known as the Asian record holder with a 6.00-meter jump and ranked No. 2 in the world in 2023, EJ has secured a place in the sport’s elite “6-Meter Club.” In addition, he has also represented the Philippines twice at the Summer Olympics, in Tokyo 2021 and Paris 2024.
He also currently leads Team PH at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Poland, atoll representing the country on the global stage.
“Guided by his father and mentor, Emerson Obiena, EJ’s rise is fueled by years of discipline, sacrifice, and relentless pursuit of excellence,” read his official description in the press release. “Beyond medals, he also hopes to inspire and mentor the next generation of Filipino pole vaulters, including Hokett delos Santos and Alyana Nicolas.“
Recently, last March 7, Obiena also scored his latest gold medal at the at the ISTAF Indoor contest in Berlin, Germany.
Earlier this year, he also clinched gold medals in Cottbus, Germany, which he shared with World No. 5 Menno Vloon, as well as another gold at the Asian Indoor Championships in Tianjin, China.
Meanwhile, after EJ, the second episode of Gamechangers will feature Project Runway Season 21 winner Veejay Floresca.
