It will mark the return of one of the world’s leading hotel companies’ luxury brand to the Philippines.
Last Monday, March 16, IHG Hotels & Resorts announced that it is bringing back InterContinental Manila, which will join a global portfolio of more than 240 InterContinental hotels and resorts worldwide.
It is also part of a growing pipeline for the company in the Philippines, which has two properties, and a total of 104 hotels in the pipeline globally.
IHG is partnering with Keyland Corporation, Philippine Realty and Holdings Corporation and Greenhills Properties Inc. to bring the brand back to Manila.
Keyland is an award-winning developer known for its residential and commercial developments across key urban centres including Makati, Alabang, Las Piñas and Ortigas, and is also expanding into the hospitality sector.
Meanwhile, Philippine Realty and Holdings Corporation is engaged in property development, sales, leasing and property management and has developed upscale residential condominium, with Greenhills Properties Inc. also engaged into property development, sales and leasing and owns premium properties in BGC.
Scheduled to open in 2032, the 212-key hotel will mark InterContinental’s return to Manila after more than 15 years, following the closure of its Makati City 2015 and the building’s subsequent demolition in 2017.
According to IHG, this move also reaffirms its long-term commitment to the country’s tourism growth, as InterContinental Manila will join the world’s first and largest luxury hotel brand, that promises to showcase a “luxury travel experience tailored for the modern traveler.”
The new InterContinental Manila will be located in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig City and will offer an array of amenities, including an all-day dining restaurant and a signature specialty restaurant and bar.
The hotel will also have versatile meeting and event spaces, featuring ballroom, function, and meeting rooms, and for relaxation and wellness, it will also be equipped with health club and spa that is complemented by an outdoor swimming pool with a poolside bar for a refreshing experience.
“The InterContinental brand has a storied history in Manila, having first opened in the city in 1969 and for 46 years it was a symbol of luxury and a hotel icon,” noted Vivek Bhalla, IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Managing Director for South East Asia & Korea.
“Reintroducing InterContinental to Manila is a wonderful milestone, and a perfect fit for the city with strong long-term fundamentals and increasing demand for luxury travel. This signing reinforces our commitment to expanding our Luxury & Lifestyle presence across the Philippines and the wider region,” furthered the company official.
For his part, Jose Ma. Montinola, President, Keyland Corporation said, “Partnering with IHG to bring a globally recognised and well-loved brand such as InterContinental to Manila is an exciting new chapter for our partnership.“
“We are immensely proud to build on the brand’s storied legacy in Manila and to play an integral role in its return to the capital, delivering a stand-out hotel that honours its past while setting a new benchmark for luxury stays in the city,” he added.
