Further growing its network to 14 schools around Southeast Asia.
Last Friday, March 13, PHINMA Education, a unit of Filipino conglomerate PHINMA Corporation, announced that it has acquired the Southeastern College (SEC) in Pasay City for PHP690 million.
The company noted that this is expansion is not simply about increasing its footprint, “but about creating more opportunities for students who aspire to complete college yet often struggle to access affordable, supportive institutions.”
PHINMA Education Philippines Country Head Happy Tan said in her statement, “With every school we bring into our network, our focus is helping more Filipino students. complete their education and move forward with better opportunities.”
Furthermore, “Many of our students are the first in their families to go to college. We want them to know that college is possible and once they begin their journey, we are committed to walking with them every step of the way.”
Southeastern College is PHINMA Education’s 12th institution in the Philippines and 14th across its regional network that includes two institutions in Indonesia.
The acquisition of the educational facility, which was founded in 1946, is seen by the company as one that will strengthen its position as the largest private higher education network in Southeast Asia, in terms of enrollment.
The corporation said the Pasay campus will become part of the PHINMA Saint Jude College network in the National Capital Region, joining campuses in Manila and Quezon City.
As part of the network, SEC will adopt PHINMA Education’s approach to student success, which combines effective teaching, career-relevant programs, and dedicated academic and personal coaching, with these helping students stay in school, complete their degrees, and graduate.
“We are in the business of reducing poverty through education.” Tan added. “So we build schools where students are empowered to persist, those who’ve dropped out are welcomed back, and every student has the opportunity to complete their education at their own pace and on their own terms. No one is left behind-and to every student who chooses to pursue college, we say: ‘sasamahan kita.'”
This deal will strengthen PHINMA Education’s ability to serve about 80,000 students in southern Metro Manila and parts of Laguna and Cavite, which is about half of the 178,000 students throughout its schools.
Aside from those already mentioned, PHINMA Education also has campuses in Pangasinan, Nueva Ecija, Iloilo, and Cagayan de Oro.
