Underscoring commitment to sustainability and set a precedent for other educational institutions in the country.
Last Wednesday, March 4, De La Salle University (DLSU) Laguna campus in Biñan announced that it has entered into a supply agreement with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), the retail electricity supply unit of the Ayala group.
Through the tie up, the university showcases a viable path toward a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future.
“We are incredibly proud to partner with DLSU Laguna in their journey towards a sustainable future,” said Sheila Mina, Vice President and Head of Account Management of ACEN RES.
“This collaboration highlights the growing commitment of institutions to embrace renewable energy and demonstrates the tangible benefits of programs like the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP) in enabling a greener Philippines. We look forward to supporting DLSU Laguna in their efforts to build a more sustainable campus.”
For his part, Dr. Jonathan “River” Dungca, the Vice President of DLSU Laguna Campus and Dean for the School of Innovation and Sustainability, expressed: “Our switch to renewable energy with ACEN RES is a pivotal step in fulfilling our vision of becoming a key resource for scientific and technological advancements, deeply rooted in the Lasallian tradition of integrating faith and service through knowledge generation.”
“This partnership not only reduces our carbon footprint but also serves as a living testament to our commitment to environmental stewardship and innovation for our students and the wider community,” he added.
The campus’ switch to renewable energy aligns with the government’s GEOP, an initiative of the Department of Energy (DOE), which encourages electricity consumers with a monthly average consumption of at least 100 kilowatts to choose their renewable energy supplier.
Through this project, it aims to accelerate the country’s shift towards renewable energy sources and provide consumers with more sustainable power choices.
ACEN RES, citing the Competitive Retail Electricity Market (CREM) report from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), dominant player in the GEOP market with a 57% market share.
Meanwhile, DLSU Laguna, located near Laguna Technopark in Biñan, is dedicated to scientific and technological advancements, with partnerships with international institutions geared towards finding solutions to global challenges.
