The volcano remaisn under Alert Level 2.
On Thursday, February 19, another visible activity was monitored at Mt. Kanlaon in Negros Island. At 4:39 pm, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) recorded a “moderately explosive eruption at the summit crater” of the volcano occurred.
The bureau, citing sesimic record, said the activity lasted two (2 minutes) and generated a dark gray eruption plume that rose 2,000 meters above the crater, before drifting southwest.
“Pyroclastic density currents or PDCs descended the southern and southwestern upper slopes within 1 kilometer of the summit crater as recorded by the IP cameras of the Kanlaon Volcano Network,” it added.
The agency then emphasized that Alert Level 2 remains hoisted over Kanlaon Volcano, with entry into the 4 kilometer-radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) being strictly prohibited.
Prior to this, back April 2025, a similar “moderately explosive” eruption event happened at the volcano. That event lasted 56 minutes, with the gray voluminous plume having risen to a height of 4 kilometers above the vent, before bending and drifting west and southwest.
