Aiming to elevate grassroots development in the northern part of Luzon.

On Tuesday, February 17, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) reported that its Chairman Patrick Gregorio met with Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc.

It is in relation to the planned Ilocos Norte Sports Institute and Research (INSPIRE) Training Development Center, which is a multi-party collaboration between the Ilocos Norte LGU, the Department of Public Works and Highways, and the PSC.

Through which, the partners were told to hacve reaffirmed their commitment to delivering a game-changing facility that will “elevate grassroots development across Northern Luzon.”

The vision is clear: decentralize opportunities, and give more Filipino athletes the structure, standards, and support systems they need to compete—and win—at higher levels,” read the official statement of the commission.

To be located between the Centennial Arena and the Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr. Stadium in Laoag City, the INSPIRE complex will anchor the regional athlete development, as well as reinforce the national sports agenda, per the PSC.

In the INSPIRE project, the DPWH has advanced the civil works, while the PSC ensures that there should be “world-class fit-outsand performance equipment.

INSPIRE is one of the of the projects discussed by the Sports commission with the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) last January.

The Ilocos Norte Sports Institute and Research Building will be among the key facilities to be completed, alongside the General Luna Convention Center in Siargao, Zamboanga City Sports Complex, and the Athletic Bowl in Baguio City.

In addition to infrastructure development, PAGCOR will support PSC’s revitalized grassroots sports development program through the provision of sports equipment nationwide, integration of sports education, coach empowerment, and the systematic identification and development of athletic talent.

Aside from training, these modern facilities are expected to boost sports tourism and enable the Philippines to host international competitions, further strengthening the country’s standing on the global sports stage, according to the PSC.
